Excursion: “Spring flora and forests in the surroundings of Göttingen” 9 am – 4 pm The excursion is led by Prof. Dr. Erwin Bergmeier. Costs (transport by bus) 15 €. Bus leaves from Institute of Zoology. Be prepared for walks on unsurfaced roads and slippery paths in moderately steep terrain. Sturdy shoes and warm clothes are recommended. Bring your lunch.
Workshop I: “Phylogeny und Biogeography of Poales” 8.15 – 12 am Organizers: Georg Zizka & Katharina Schulte, Frankfurt, e-mail: Georg.Zizka@senckenberg.de Topics: systematics, (historical) biogeography, character evolution, relevant plastid and nuclear markers, etc. Focus is on families Bromeliaceae and Poaceae.

Workshop IV: “DNA sequence alignment for phylogenetic analysis - current approaches and future prospects“ 1 – 4 pm Organizers: Kai Müller, Bonn & Dietmar Quandt, Dresden, e-mail: kaimueller@uni-bonn.de Topics: primary and secondary homology assessment, combining alignment and tree building, current improvements to computerized procedures, incorporating secondary structure information into alignment, single event sequence blocks and coding of microstructural changes
Workshop V: “Pixel-Voxel-Morphology – Introduction to working with µCT-data” 9 am - 4 pm Organizer: Thomas Hörnschemeyer, Göttingen, e-mail: thoerns@gwdg.de Participation: max. 12. Language: German or English as required. Topics: Based on sample datasets participants will learn how to analyse and manipulate µCT-data with the software TGS Amira® 4.1. The procedure from data acquisition to the reconstruction of a three dimensional dataset will be demonstrated with a SkyScan Micro-CT desktop machine. |
